This is how we learn here at UPeace. We go on field trips that sometimes include biodiversity theme parks!! I am currently taking the San Jose Environmental Seminar which means 6 of us plus our kick ass professor get in a van with a UPeace driver and brave the city. Thus far we have visited 9 environmental organizations in San Jose, INBio, FUNDECOR, FONAFIFO, IUCN, WWF, SINAC, OTS, FAO, and CoopeSolidar. The class is structured so that we have a brief presentation from each organization we visit, and then get to grill them with questions. And given that our professor knows close to everything, seriously, this guy is amazing...it makes for some heated and interesting discussions. And inbetween the visits, we get to explore San Jose! We went the a theme park at INBio and almost went roller skating....but the rink was closed! So we had to settle for ice cream and a tour of the cow parade (large painted cows doing all sorts of crazy statue like things).
Other happenings in the last week or so include a quick surf trip to Jaco, an Earth day potluck complete with a jacuzzi and swimming pool as well as environmental games for kids at the local school, homemade sushi night at our house, exploring the area around Universidad de Costa Rica, and a Cultural Festival complete with craft booths and live music performances. Never a dull moment.
